Situated in Connolly Street, Mountmellick,
the premises was originally the old Fire Station. The
building was taken over by Laois Civil Defence in 1989
and is now divided into a stores area, meeting room
and training classroom. The Building was re-roofed and
painted in 2004.
Currently renovations are taking place
inside and is hoped that it will be re-wired and new
heating installed and that the yard to the rear of the
building will be cleaned and landscaped.
Recently Cmdr Fergal Conroy was appointed
as Officer in charge of the Mountmellick unit. Fergal
was a member of the Mountmellick base in late eighties
and looks forward to working closely with the local
community in the Mountmellick area. Down through the
years the unit was involved with many rescue situations
in the nearby Slieve Bloom Mountains and also the River
Owenass.
Training currently takes place on Wednesday
nights from 8 to 10 pm. A comprehensive training plan
is currently being organised over the next few months
in the following areas First Aid, Heights Rescue, Communications
and Boating.

Fergal Conroy at 057 8624126 or Mobile 087 2520104 or
