Five members of Laois Civil Defence were on duty at the homecoming party for the Irish World Cup squad at the Pheonix Park, Dublin this evening. They were joined by 100 other Civil Defence personnel from around the country. The Civil Defence operation was coordinated and supported by Dublin Civil Defence.

Civil Defence assisted Gardai and stewards with crowd safety at the barriers and around the stage. Several younger members of the audience were lifted out to prevent crushing, and water was provided to those requiring it.

The event was a great success, with little or no trouble.
