The Midland Health Board Ambulance Service recently held a demonstration of their decontamination unit. This would be used to remove hazardous materials from responders and casualties in the event of a chemical, nuclear or biohazard incident. Representatives of Civil Defence along with the Gardai, Fire Service and Defence Forces attended.

The unit is transported in a dedicated vehicle and takes the form of an inflatable tent with water-shower systems inside. Hazmat suits and respirators are also carried.
