On Friday 19th October Laois Civil Defence were called to assist at a biohazard alert at County Hall, Portlaoise. An envelope containing white powder was found in the tax office in the building, which also houses the Civil Defence county control centre. Responding services also included an army bomb disposal team, Gardai, fire service and Midland Health Board ambulances and public health personnel. The Civil Defence set up a tent where a decontamination spray was set up. Tests on the substance proved to be negative and a hoax is suspected.

The pictures below appeared in the October 27th edition of the Leinster Express newspaper.
