The county camp took place in Ballyfin from Friday
1st to Sunday 3rd September. The event was hosted
by No.1 Base (Mountmellick) at the Patrician College.
Full use was made of the lake on the grounds to train
with the boat and an exercise took place involving
it on Saturday. Abseiling was also carried out from
the buildings of the college. Members of Limerick
and Kildare C.D. were also present as were most of
the members of No.3 Base.

Vol. Anthony Tynan from No.3 base attended a course
in the Civil Defence School, Dublin on the same weekend
and during the following week. This involved Modules
1 & 2 as well as a Module 3 course in Welfare.

On Wednesday 11th October personnel from Laois C.D.
travelled up to Aras an Uachtarain to meet the President,
Mary McAleese. After meeting her the visitors received
a tour of the Aras. Afterwards they went to Casement
Aerodrome for a tour of the Air Corps' base there.
The day concluded with a meal in Tracey's. Thanks
are extended to T.O. Fergal Conroy who arranged the
day-out and to Kildare C.D. who provided additional
transport.
