Training resumed at no.3 base tonight (14/01/00).
The main item on the agenda was planning the unit's
preparation for this years national exercise which
is taking place on the May bank holiday weekend. It
will be the biggest ever and marks the fiftieth anniversary
of the establishment of Civil Defence in Ireland.
It is also intended as a test of the "Towards
2000" strategy for the development of the Civil
Defence organisation. It's taking place this year
in counties Louth and Dublin, with Louth being the
Laois area of operations.

The first morning of Y2K passed off uneventfully,
but just in case of any bug-related difficulties,
a higher state of readiness was put in place throughout
the country. No problems were experienced however,
and the distinct lack of mushroom clouds or catastrophic
blackouts was a relief.

As you may have noticed the new-look site was a week
or two late in going online. It's still not totally
finshed ( ref: history section) but is getting there.
Let us know what you think.
